More About John West

John West has been the owner and managing partner of two law firms in Seattle, and has had a wide variety of experience in consulting, business, and the arts & humanities.

John attended Stanford university, graduated from UCLA, and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin (Madison).

Between 1991 and 2006, John lived and worked in Seattle, Washington.  During this time he mostly practiced civil rights and employment law at one of his two firms.  Also during this time, John was a board member and consultant to several nonprofit groups, as well as the owner of various other businesses.  He also began his writing career during this time.  He currently lives in Los Angeles.

Because of the impact of his once-in-a-generation book, The Last Goodnights, John is frequently asked to speak about the issue of Death With Dignity.  He has been interviewed by international, national, regional, and local television, radio, online, and print media.  Highlights of these interviews include Good Morning America on ABC and The Diane Rehm Show on NPR.  He also is a frequent lecturer at universities and medical centers.

John is currently in the process of preparing an intense lobbying effort in various state legislatures where issues of patients’ rights, especially Death With Dignity, are being debated and decided.  The Last Goodnights Organization is the support arm for his efforts in this regard.

John also maintains a confidential consulting service, to help people who are facing (or who have already faced) the issues addressed in The Last Goodnights.
